Veteran Fundraising FAQs

What do I receive when I register my fundraiser with you?

We’ve set you up for success! Once you register, you’ll have access to fundraising tips, materials, and guides to make the most of your fundraiser.

What is a personal fundraising page?
It’s your own webpage showcasing your fundraiser. This is where your supporters will donate to wounded warriors and their families as you inch closer to your fundraising goal. When you register your fundraiser with us, this personal fundraising page is automatically created for you. We recommend you personalize your page with a custom URL, photos, event details, and why you support wounded warriors and their families.

Where do my fundraising dollars go?

Your fundraising efforts support Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) programs and services, which are provided at no cost to warriors and their families.  More than $247 million went directly to these programs in our last fiscal year. Seventy-two percent of donations pays for programs, and the balance pays to support them. We are humbled to be recognized as a charity with great impact, operating with efficiency, transparency, and accountability. We’re an accredited charity with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), top-rated by Charity Navigator, and hold a GuideStar Platinum rating.

Who is Wounded Warrior Project?

Since 2003, we’ve been tireless advocates for our nation’s finest, improving the lives of millions of warriors and their families. Wounded Warrior Project is transforming the way America’s injured veterans are empowered, employed, and engaged in our communities. Click here to learn more about who we are and who we help.

Is there a minimum I must fundraise for WWP?

No minimum or maximums here. Every dollar raised is appreciated and empowers warriors through life-changing programs and services.

Can WWP provide a representative for my fundraiser?

Complete the Warrior Speak representative request form here. If we aren’t able to make your event, utilize the WWP talking points we provide, and share the WWP mission with your attendees through a video. Check out our YouTube channel for warrior stories and information on our programs and services.

Can I host a giveaway (sweepstakes, contest, small games of chance) for WWP?

Many supporters contact us with interest in conducting an online or in-person giveaway as a means of raising funds and awareness in WWP’s mission. While a giveaway seems like a fun and easy way to support WWP, there are actually specific rules and regulations that need to be followed. Please refer to this Giveaway Information Sheet to understand some important considerations and requirements before you plan to host a giveaway.

Does WWP provide promotional items for my fundraiser?

Yes, there are many resources available to download for your fundraiser! Log in to your Dashboard and check out the Resources section for promotional information, interactive flyers, and more. For additional options, email WWPfundraise@woundedwarriorproject.org.

Are there any type of fundraisers WWP cannot support?

WWP is not able to support community fundraisers that are sexual, political, or drug-based.

What if I own or work for a company that wants to donate a percentage of sales?

If you or your company is interested in offering a portion or percent of proceeds from a product or service, please view our Corporate Partnerships page here, or email the team at partners@woundedwarriorproject.org for more information.

Can I set up a donation collection outside my local supermarket or go door-to-door to collect funds?

We strongly discourage storefront and door-to-door solicitation for donations. With storefront solicitation, in addition to needing the store’s permission, there may be state laws and local ordinances that limit or prohibit this type of fundraising. Similarly, your state, local municipality, or neighborhood may have laws, ordinances, rules, and/or regulations affecting your ability to engage in door-to-door fundraising. Check out our Fundraising from A to Z guide for ideas on how to fundraise for wounded warriors.

Can I use the WWP logo to promote my fundraiser?

We provide a specific Proud Supporter logo for our fundraisers.  Log in to your Dashboard to download our Proud Supporter logo and other promotional templates and materials in the Resources tab.

Donation FAQs

I received some checks. How do I get credit for (offline donations) that I send in from my fundraiser?

Please have your supporters make their checks payable to Wounded Warrior Project. To ensure these checks get attributed to your event, please send them with an “Offline Donation Form” included in the envelope. Log in to your fundraising page for the form, and mail your check or money order donations with it to the following address:

Wounded Warrior Project
P.O. Box 758525
Topeka, Kansas 66675-8525
ATTN: Community Fundraising

Offline donations will be posted to your online page total within 10-15 business days after being received.

How can I see who has donated to my fundraiser?

Log in to your fundraising page. Select Donations from the top menu, and you’ll be shown a list of all your donations. This is a good reminder to thank every donor who’s given to your fundraising campaign!

How do my donors get a donation receipt?

WWP will handle all individual receipts. Every online donor receives an automatic receipt for tax purposes. Check or money order donors will receive a tax acknowledgement via mail after their donation is processed.

Can I use the WWP tax-exempt status to purchase materials, receive discounted rates on venues, or provide tax acknowledgements for gift-in-kind given to my fundraiser?

Unfortunately, supporters are not able to utilize our tax-exempt status for any purchases or expenses for third-party events or fundraisers. Only proprietary events or programs run by WWP staff can legally provide our tax-exemption status for purchases. Sponsors of third-party fundraising events are only eligible to receive tax acknowledgements if they donate directly to Wounded Warrior Project.
