Veterans Affairs Mental Health Employee Survey

Working daily with OEF/OIF veterans across the country, Wounded Warrior Project™ sees the impact that combat-related mental health conditions have on veterans’ health, well-being, and economic adjustment. We also see daily the critical importance of good mental health care, and appreciate the dedicated efforts of VA clinical staff to provide it.

With that perspective, WWP conducted a survey late last year to learn more about Wounded Warriors’ experience with VA mental health care. Many survey-respondents volunteered comments acknowledging the help they had received from VA mental health staff. (For example, “the services…are outstanding and drastically changed my life, if not saved it”). Yet significant percentages cited difficulties in receiving timely help, in being seen with the frequency they felt they needed, in receiving individual rather than group therapy, or in being seen at times that could accommodate work or school schedules.

VA employees:With our deep commitment to helping this generation of veterans thrive – and to advocating effectively on their behalf toward that goal – it would be most helpful to understand, and be able to convey, the provider experience, to include any significant constraints on providing patient-centered mental health care.

We ask that you help us advocate most effectively for Wounded Warriors by participating in this anonymous survey aimed at understanding your experience in providing mental health care to OEF/OIF veterans. The survey is meant for all mental health and counseling staff – administrative as well as clinical – at all VHA facilities. We take your confidentiality very seriously, and the survey does not seek identifying information unless you wish to provide it. On behalf of our warriors, thank you in advance for your participation. Should you have any questions regarding the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact our Policy and Government Affairs team at policy@woundedwarriorproject.org.
