SPREAD THE WORD

Your family, friends, and coworkers want to hear what you’re up to. Reach out by mail, email, or through social media. A formatted email template is provided on your fundraising page, but try to include the following in your communication pieces:

  • Share your personal connection or story of why serving Wounded Warriors and their families is so important to you.Provide evidence on how WWP is changing and saving lives every day.
For example, “Visit the Meet a Warrior page on the WWP website to read the inspiring stories of Wounded Warriors and their families to see how Wounded Warrior Project® is making a positive impact on their lives.”
  • Become a Fan of WWP on Facebook and follow up on Twitter. Use the power of social media to show your support and enlist others in the mission to honor and empower Wounded Warriors.
Sample post: “I’m honored to be participating in the Wounded Warrior Project® 8K Run on (insert date)! I’m hitting the pavement to help raise awareness and funds to support our nation’s Wounded Warriors! Help me reach my goal by visiting my fundraising page (insert URL) or sign up to run with me at wwp8kruns.org.”
  • Show your support for our nation's wounded veterans by adding a banner to your website or blog. Visit the Online Advocacy Center where we have different styles to choose from complete with easy to use embed codes!

FUNDRAISING IDEAS

  • Ask your employer to match your fundraising efforts. Many companies have an employee match campaign and we suggest reaching out to your company’s human resources team.
  • Ask friends to make a donation to your page in lieu of gifts on your birthday or another special occasion.
  • Bake, rake leaves, shovel snow, or cut your neighbors grass in exchange for a donation on your personal fundraising page. It will also help with your training.

FOLLOW UP AND THANK YOUR CONTRIBUTERS

  • Send updates on your fundraising, training, and goal for the WWP 8K Run. You’re an inspiration to many of your followers and they want to hear about your success.
  • Follow up right before the event to gather last-minute support.
  • WWP automatically emails a confirmation message to your donors, but we encourage you to send a personal thank-you message, by email, notecard, or phone call. You may want to include a photo of you or your team crossing the finish line! Tell donors what it means to you and how their donation is helping WWP.
