WWP COVID-19 Relief Program
Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is committing $10 million to help meet the immediate needs of warriors who are in urgent and significant financial crisis due to the loss of household income caused by the coronavirus pandemic. We are asking able companies and foundations to join the effort to support our nation’s heroes by matching the $10 million commitment.
WWP Warriors registered on or before April 8, 2020 are being asked to only apply for assistance if they absolutely need it because of financial hardships from COVID-19. It’s important to note that not all warriors will qualify for this assistance, and others who do qualify, will not receive funds once funding is exhausted.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Warriors that meet all the following criteria:
- Confirmed registration with WWP on or before April 8, 2020.
- Have themselves suffered a loss of personal employment/work income or are dependent on someone in their household who has suffered a loss of employment/work income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Are currently unable to pay for rent/mortgage, utilities, food, due to the loss of income as a result of COVID-19.
Only warriors are eligible to apply for this one-time-only grant, however, if a warrior is financially dependent on another member of their household who has had a COVID-19 related loss of employment/work income, the warrior may apply on behalf of their household.
10,000 eligible wounded, ill, and injured service members will receive a $1,000 grant per household to help cover their immediate needs for food and shelter. If WWP gets commitments from corporate partners and other donors to help match these funds, we will be able to increase the number of warriors and families we can help. Approved grants will be awarded as they come in, until funds are gone.
Eligible warriors must complete the application confirming their lost household income and provide information about former employment when applicable.
Applications will be accepted starting 12:00pm EST on Thursday, April 9th and grant payments will be made until funding is gone. At that point the Grant program will be paused until and unless we receive matching funds. That said, and as always, we will continue to serve all Warriors through our other critical programs and services.
All applicants will be notified of their status after determinations are made.
Once we receive an application and verify it meets the criteria for COVID relief assistance, funds will be issued in one of two ways: electronically, via “Zelle” which will get funds to recipients immediately, or via paper check – which can take as much as two weeks to be delivered. WWP’s goal is to process and initiate payment to approved applicants within three to five days of approval.
Following any grant based on a warrior’s application, WWP will send the $1,000 grant payment. These warriors (whose applications are approved and who receive grants) will have the flexibility to use these funds to pay their most critical bills.
