Tour Gives Glimpse into Private Reserve on Island

HONOLULU, Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A group of wounded veterans toured Kualoa Ranch on Oahu Island recently. You may not recognize the name, but the location was used in "Jurassic Park," "Godzilla," "Windtalkers," and many other movies and television shows.

Wounded veterans take in the sites of Kualoa Ranch in Oahu

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) took these injured veterans touring on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to help build camaraderie. WWP sees engagement as a key pillar in recovery for wounded veterans. Through shared experiences-- such as sporting events, social gatherings, or ATV tours-- injured service members can build their own network of support. WWP offers 20 free programs and services to help wounded veterans in their recovery.

Jonelle Jacobsen is an Army veteran and WWP Alumnus. She enjoyed the sights and the history lesson.

"The tour was absolutely amazing," Jonelle said. "I learned the ancestors of the Hawaiian people remain in their resting place still. I love it."

Jonelle picked a unique event for her first experience with WWP, and she echoes the message of shared support.

"This is a place I feel connected," Jonelle said. "A place where I can communicate with others and they understand what I am going through even if it is not specific to what they went through."

WWP recently launched Warrior Care Network™ with four academic medical centers around the country. The $100-million investment will increase mental health care opportunities for wounded veterans. Warrior Care Network will work with the Veterans Administration to enhance the continuum of care for injured service members.
