Wounded Warrior Project Signs On as Platinum Sponsor of 2015 Department of Defense Warrior Games

The games will be held at Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, June 19–29, 2015.

Jacksonville, Fla. (June 16, 2015) – As part of its continued commitment to honor and empower Wounded Warriors, Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) will serve as a Platinum Sponsor of the Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games, taking place in Quantico, Virginia, June 19–29, 2015.

The DoD Warrior Games is a multisport competition with over 250 wounded, ill, and injured service members participating from all branches of service, including service members from the United Kingdom. These premier athletes will compete in events including track and field, swimming, shooting, sitting volleyball, archery, wheelchair basketball, cycling, and wheelchair rugby during the two-week competition.

“We are thrilled to support the Warrior Games and the athletes participating,” said Steve Nardizzi, chief executive officer at Wounded Warrior Project. “One of the four programmatic pillars of WWP focuses on helping injured service members pursue a healthy lifestyle along their road to recovery. Adaptive sports, like those taking place at the Warrior Games, play a large role in achieving this goal.”

The games will begin with an opening ceremony on Friday, June 19, 2015, which will include opening remarks from Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and will be attended by several senior military and government leaders from across the National Capital Region.

This sponsorship goes hand in hand with the WWP Physical Health and Wellness program, which focuses on encouraging healthy and active lifestyles for injured service members, their caregivers, and their family members. The Physical Health and Wellness program has something to offer warriors in every stage of recovery, focusing on what they can do as opposed to their limitations.
