Three Ways to Simplify Your Giving

A donor-advised fund (DAF), which is like a charitable savings account, gives you flexibility and control of how often a gift is granted to Wounded Warrior Project. You can recommend a one-time gift or set up a recurring gift. Join the millions of Americans already using DAFs to maximize their charitable impact.

Recommend a Grant from Your DAF

You can recommend a gift to WWP by contacting your fund administrator, or by making a grant recommendation online.

Sustain Impact with Recurring Grants

You can set up recurring grants to help sustain life-changing WWP programs. You can do this online or by contacting your fund administrator and choosing your grant frequency.

Leave a Legacy

You can help continue the mission of WWP after your lifetime by naming WWP as the beneficiary of your DAF. Simply contact your fund administrator to do so.

Frequently Asked Questions

A donor advised fund is a charitable giving account you establish with a sponsoring organization. You make an irrevocable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then make grant recommendations to qualified 501(c)(3) charities, such as Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

If you already have a DAF, you can recommend a grant to WWP either through your fund administrator or directly via DAFpay (WWP’s online grant recommendation tool).

Learn more by contacting the stewardship team directly at stewardship@woundedwarriorproject.org or by downloading this free guide to donor-advised fund giving.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Simplified giving: Your fund administrator handles all paperwork, record-keeping, and tax receipts.
  • Flexible timing: You can take your tax deduction when you make a contribution and choose when and where to disburse grants.
  • Tax-efficiency: Contributions are tax deductible, and investment growth is federally tax free. You can also donate appreciated securities, avoiding capital gains.
  • Family legacy: A DAF is a powerful way to build or continue a tradition of family philanthropy.

When recommending a grant, we encourage you to use the DAFpay feature on our website, it ensures immediate gift delivery in just three simple clicks.

If you prefer not to use DAFpay, please be sure to include your full name, fund name, contact information, and, if available, your Donor ID/account number when submitting your grant.

Additionally, sending a quick email to stewardship@woundedwarriorproject.org in advance allows us to promptly and accurately acknowledge your generous support.

Yes, DAFpay is a secure and trusted platform designed specifically for donor-advised fund giving. Powered by Chariot, DAFpay connects directly with most major DAF sponsors, allowing you to recommend a grant online safely and seamlessly.

DAFpay uses encrypted, bank-level security protocols and never stores your personal financial information

According to IRS regulations and DAF sponsor policies, DAF donations cannot be used, either in whole or in part, to pay for fundraising events, tickets, tables, sponsorships or anything that provides more than an incidental benefit to the donor, or  if they include goods or services that are not fully tax-deductible (such as meals, entertainment, sponsorships that include recognition with promotional value).

However, if you choose to decline all associated goods, services or benefits, you may be able to use your DAF. Please check with your DAF sponsor to ensure compliance with their specific guidelines.

If you have questions or would like help ensuring your gift is eligible, feel free to contact us at stewardship@woundedwarriorproject.org

Generally, donor-advised funds are flexible. There is no federally mandated minimum annual payout, unlike private foundations, so you control the timing and size of your grant recommendations.

Some sponsoring organizations may have their guidelines, such as minimum grant amounts, or charge a small percentage fee to manage your fund.

We recommend checking with your sponsoring organization for specific details on its policies and fees.
