What type of information does WWP collect?
There are two main types of information that WWP may collect from you: (1) personal information that you provide to WWP and (2) non-personal information which WWP may automatically collect from you.
- Pursuant to applicable state law and upon obtaining the proper consents (if applicable), as you view, register, and interact with the WWP Website and/or WWP services, you may opt to provide WWP with personal information such as your name, address, phone number, email address, military branch, rank, service dates, date of birth, gender, type and location of injury, individual hobbies and interest, benefit claims details, financial information, basic physical and mental fitness details and, other information that may be relevant to a particular program or service you are interested in. Please note, some of the information that you provide to WWP may be considered “sensitive” in nature pursuant to applicable law.
For more detailed information regarding what information is collected by WWP when you register or contact WWP as an Alumni and/or Caregiver, donor, or minor, please see below:
- Alumni: Pursuant to applicable state law, and upon obtaining the proper consents (if applicable), WWP will ask you for personally identifiable information, such as name, date of birth, gender, type and location of your injury, and eligibility documentation. This may include your DD214, VA ratings decision, enlisted record brief or officer record brief, medical evaluation board or physical evaluation board, current unit orders to a warrior transition unit or battalion, line of duty documentation, or Purple Heart orders or citation. Such information may contain sensitive personal information protected by state and federal laws and regulations such as your signature, social security number, physical characteristics (including gender and race), and marital status.
Additionally, when you attempt to register as an Alumni member, in certain circumstances, WWP may gather information about you from publicly available resources like public records and social media. Please note, WWP does not take responsibility for the accuracy for such information gathered from outside sources.
Once you are registered as an Alumni, and depending on your level of involvement with WWP services, WWP may ask you for additional information. This may include questions about your individual hobbies and interests, benefits claim(s) details, basic financial information, basic physical and mental fitness details, and other information that may be relevant to the particular program or service you are interested in.
Please note, in the event that WWP is unable to verify the information you provide to WWP, WWP may request additional information such as your driver’s license or another form of identification in order to complete the registration process.
- Family Support: Pursuant to applicable state law, and upon obtaining proper consents (if applicable), when you register as a Family Support member, WWP will ask you for personally identifiable information such as, your name, email address, telephone number, and mailing address, as well as other identifying information like date of birth and gender. WWP will also ask you for your relationship status with an eligible warrior (e.g., whether you are related to or supporting a veteran who served in the military on or after September 11, 2001).
Additionally, WWP will ask for information about the warrior you support, including name, eligibility documentation, and service details, such as branch, rank, and service dates. Requested eligibility documentation may include the warrior’s DD214, VA ratings decision, enlisted record brief or officer record brief, medical evaluation board or physical evaluation board, current unit orders to a warrior transition unit or battalion, line of duty documentation, or Purple Heart orders or citation. Please note, such information may contain sensitive personal information protected by state and federal laws and regulations such as your and/or the warrior’s signature, social security number, physical characteristics (including gender and race), and marital status.
Lastly, when you attempt to register as a Family Support member, in certain circumstances, WWP may gather information about you from publicly available resources like public records and social media. Please note, WWP does not take responsibility for the accuracy for such information gathered from outside sources.
Please note, in the event that WWP is unable to verify the information you provide to WWP, WWP may request additional information such as your driver’s license or another form of identification in order to complete the registration process.
- Donors: During the donation process (when you make a donation to WWP or sign up to receive emails), WWP will ask for information that could be used to personally identify you. This includes your contact information, such as your name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. If you donate via credit or debit card, WWP will also ask for your card number, expiration date, and other information necessary for WWP’s third party vendor to process the transaction. If you donate via check, WWP may ask for limited bank information.
- Minors: WWP believes that protecting the privacy of children is especially important. WWP does not knowingly collect, use, or disclose sensitive information about anyone who is under 18 years of age except in special circumstances with parental consent (i.e. minors wanting to support WWP by registering for WWP’s signature Carry Forward® event or registering as a Student Ambassador, or other fundraising events (“Events”)).
When minors register for WWP Events (with parental consent), WWP will request identifiable information such as name, mailing address, and email address of the minor. Minors who may be registering for WWP’s signature Carry Forward® event will also need to provide a credit or debit card number, expiration date, and other information to register for the event with their parent’s or legal guardian’s permission.
Additionally, WWP may receive information regarding minors as WWP communicates regarding the Event after registration. When WWP receives information from you, your minor, or your minor’s legal guardian regarding the minor, WWP will continue to use industry-standard security measures, including encryption, firewalls, and physical security, to protect yours and the minor’s data.
- Children under 13 years of age: Please note, WWP treats information about children under 13 with special care. Children under 13 are not allowed to register themselves as Student Ambassadors or for any other fundraising efforts. A parent or legal guardian must provide verifiable opt-in consent before WWP can collect or process any information for children under 13. Such opt-in consent is obtained when a parent or legal guardian registers a child for a WWP fundraising event. When a parent or legal guardian registers a child under 13, WWP will ask the parent or legal guardian for the child’s name and address. This information is collected for WWP to keep track of fundraising efforts and send the appropriate registration packets to registrants, if necessary.
Additionally, and subject to applicable state law, if you are registering a child under the age of 13 for Carry Forward® or a similar event, WWP will only communicate with you via the email address provided to provide communications about the event for which the child is registered.
Further, it is WWP’s policy to delete information about children under 13 approximately 30 days following the event for which they are registered.
- Parental Choices and Controls:
At any time, parents can refuse to permit WWP to collect further personal information from their children in association with a particular event, and can request that WWP delete from WWP records the personal information WWP has collected.
Parents and legal guardians may request that WWP delete personal information regarding their children at any point by contacting WWP at 877.832.6997 or sending a detailed email requesting the same to privacy@woundedwarriorproject.org.

- Carry Forward® participants: When you register as a participant for a Carry Forward® virtual or city series event (“Carry Forward® event”) you will receive an email containing information on how to download and login to the Carry Forward® app. The Carry Forward® app is maintained and managed by a third-party vendor, currently Nuclavis, and can be used as a way to track and share your fundraising goals and progress before and throughout the Carry Forward® event. Use of the Carry Forward® app is completely voluntary and not considered a requirement for your participation in a Carry Forward® event.
Should you choose to download and use the Carry Forward® app, you have the option to sync your fitness tracking devices to earn activity reward points related to your participation. Once a fitness tracking device has been synced, the Carry Forward® app may access data from Apple Health, Android Health Connect, Garmin, Strava, and Fitbit to support fitness-related features. Such data is limited to fitness activity only—specifically, workout types and durations, steps, and distance, and is used solely to provide activity reward points related to your participation. Please note, WWP does not have access to any of your fitness data collected by the Carry Forward® app and Nuclavis does not access, store, or transmit personal health record information beyond the activity types as listed above.
Further, should you choose to use the Carry Forward® app, you retain full control over the connection to Android Health Connect and may choose to connect or disconnect at any time through the Activity Tracking screen in the Carry Forward® app.

Automatic Information, Collection and Tracking: When you access, use the Website, or register for WWP, WWP may use technology to automatically collect:
- Usage Details. When you access and use the Website, WWP may automatically collect certain details of your access to and use of the Website, including traffic data, location data, logs, and other communication data and the resources that you access and use on or through the Website.
- Device Information. If you are accessing the Website on your mobile device, we may collect information about your mobile device and internet connection, including the device’s unique device identifier, IP address, operating system, browser type, location, and. Please note when this non-personal information is combined, it may become personal information. However, it is WWP’s policy to anonymize this information so that all automatic collection and tracking information remains anonymous.
We may use cookies to collect this type of information, as further explained below.
Information Collection and Tracking Technologies: The technologies we use for automatic information collection are as follows:
- Cookies or mobile cookies: A cookie is a small data file that individual websites store on your computer’s hard drive – if your web browser permits. The Website can later retrieve that cookie to let WWP know you’ve been to the WWP Website before, among other things. Cookies typically make your use of the Website easier, make the Website run more smoothly, and help WWP to maintain a secure Website. Many websites use cookies. WWP uses both session ID cookies which expire when you close your browser and persistent cookies which remain on your hard drive. You are free to decline WWP’s cookies if your browser permits, but some parts of the WWP Website may not work properly if you decline.
- Web Beacons. Pages of the Website and WWP emails may contain small electronic files known as web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, and single-pixel gifs) that permit WWP, for example, to count users who have visited those pages or opened an email and for other related app statistics (for example, recording the popularity of certain app content and verifying system and server integrity).

It is WWP’s goal that you fully understand how we collect information, how we use that information, and the steps we take to protect that information. WWP will update this Policy from time to time. Third parties and links to third party websites: WWP uses third parties such as Google, Microsoft/Bing, Meta, Media Math, App Nexus, BidSwitch, Amazon, Rubicon Project, Adobe, MatomoWPVIP INC, AdTheorent, and the Trade Desk to monitor certain pages of WWP’s Website for the purpose of reporting web traffic, statistics, advertisement “click-throughs,” and other activities on WWP’s Website. Where authorized by WWP, these third parties may use cookies and/or other monitoring technologies to compile statistics about WWP’s Website visitors.
These third parties may use tracking technologies to collect information about you when you use the Website or WWP services. The information they collect may be associated with your personal and/or non-personal information about your online activities over time and across different Websites, apps, and other online services Websites. They may use this information to provide you with interest-based (behavioral) advertising or other targeted content.
Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our service. This data is shared with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network. WWP does not control these third parties’ tracking technologies, what is being tracked, or how the information may be used. If you have any questions about an advertisement or other targeted content, you should contact the responsible provider directly. For information about how you can opt out of receiving targeted advertising from many providers, see the section titled “Your Privacy Rights”.
The WWP Website contains links to third party, external websites. This Policy applies only to WWP’s Website and services. When you leave WWP’s Website to visit one of these linked sites, the only information transferred to the third party is the fact that you came from WWP. To understand your privacy on other websites, you must read their privacy policies. Some of WWP’s third-party advertisers and ad servers that place and present advertising on the Website may collect information from you via cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies. These third-party advertisers and ad servers may use the information they collect while you are on WWP’s Website to help present their advertisements, to help measure and research the advertisements’ effectiveness, or for other purposes.
