Wounded Warrior Project Independence Program
Empowering warriors to live a more independent life
The Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Independence Program provides long-term support to catastrophically wounded veterans living with injuries that impact independence, such as a moderate to severe brain injury, spinal cord injury, or neurological condition.
The program is designed to support warriors who, without high-touch services, would struggle to live independently day to day due to the severity of their injuries. In addition, these services offer increased access to community services; provide rehabilitation through alternative therapies; and empower warriors to achieve goals, leading to a more independent life. Because every journey is different, we work as a team with warriors, their family members, and their caregivers to set goals to live a fulfilling life, at home, with their loved ones.
All warriors receive:
- Comprehensive service assessment
- Individualized goal-setting
- Case management services
Based on individual needs, warriors may receive some or all of the following:
- Community support services
- Home health care services
- Physical health and wellness opportunities
- Alternative therapies (i.e., art, music, or equine therapy)
- Stress management and resiliency training
- Advocacy
- Caregiver and family member support
- Long-term care planning

No, the Independence Program does not assign or provide caregivers. However, the program can provide services to foster independence.
Because every journey is different, there is no specific timeframe for participation. The Independence Program is designed to meet the warrior and caregiver’s specific needs in their home and community through active participation with our team in achieving individualized goals.
The warrior can contact our Resource Center to inquire about Independence Program eligibility. If you are your warrior's primary advocate you may reach out on their behalf.
If you are not currently registered with WWP please visit our registration page for details about who is eligible to register with WWP and how to get started.
