Wounded Warrior Project - Warrior Survey FAQ and Resources.

Your Guide to the Warrior Survey

Thanks for being part of the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Warrior Survey. Your voice matters — and it makes a real difference. Below you’ll find answers to common questions and helpful resources to make completing the survey as easy as possible.

Your feedback helps WWP, the VA, policymakers, and other veteran organizations better support you. As a thank-you, we’ll send you a WWP RFID wallet after the survey ends.

WWP is working with two teams at Penn State to carry out the Warrior Survey: The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness and the Survey Research Center. The Clearinghouse is an independent research organization conducting this study on behalf of WWP. All information shared in the survey is treated as highlight confidential by both WWP and Penn State. Additional information on Clearinghouse can be found at militaryfamilies.psu.edu.

A limited group of warriors was selected to represent all WWP-registered warriors and participate in the Warrior Survey. If you were selected, you’ll get an email between July through September 2025 with a survey link and a unique PIN. Just click the link and enter your PIN to get started.

In 2020, the Warrior Survey was carefully reviewed to make sure it truly reflects the needs of WWP warriors. Experts recommended sending the survey to a smaller, representative group instead of everyone. This helps reduce survey fatigue and allows us to follow the same group over time to better understand trends and changes. As more warriors join WWP, we’ll include new voices to keep the sample strong and representative.

Invitations will be sent out in phases throughout July and August. Sending the invitations in phases, rather than all at once, helps WWP respond more quickly if warriors need help during or following the survey.

If you have not received your invitation email by mid-August 2025, please check your junk/spam folders for an email sent by reply@connect-woundedwarriorproject.org.

If you are still unable to locate it, please reach out to the team at Penn State by calling  877.848.2474 or emailing wwp.src@psu.edu

The WWP Warrior Survey includes questions regarding:

  • Demographic information (e.g., age, gender, education, ethnicity)
  • Employment
  • Finances and benefits
  • Military service experience
  • Current well-being, including physical and mental health status
  • Health care access
  • Self-directed violence
  • Environmental and toxic exposures

Your survey responses are confidential. However, if you share something that suggests a risk to your safety or someone else’s, Penn State may securely share your responses with a WWP staff member who may reach out to check on your well-being. We take your privacy seriously and use secure systems to protect your information. While no system is completely risk-free, we follow strict data security standards to keep your personal details safe.

Yes. Information collected is encrypted at all times. Our secure servers use “HTTPS” to ensure an encrypted transmission of your data between your browser and our servers. The survey link is also independently verified by a third party as a secure website.

Sometimes, answering questions about your mental health can prompt you to reach out for support. There are many resources available to you:

  • If you feel you are in crisis or immediate distress, please call the Veterans Crisis Line by dialing 988 and then pressing 1. You can also text 838255. This is a free 24-hour hotline available to anyone in emotional distress who wishes to speak to a counselor immediately, as well as to people calling about someone else in crisis.
  • If you are interested in ongoing support, we encourage you to consider one of WWP’s mental health programs. Please call the WWP Resource Center at 888.WWP.ALUM (997.2586) to get started.
  • You can also sign up for these programs using the MyWWP® mobile app and web portal.
  • View a comprehensive list of mental health resources available through WWP and other trusted organizations.

Yes. WWP wants to keep up with what’s changing in your life — both the challenges and the wins. By hearing from warriors year after year, researchers can better understand how things like health, finances, and access to care affect overall quality of life. Your input helps improve WWP programs and shape policies that support you and future warriors.

This survey should take about 30 minutes to complete.

No. You can stop at any time and come back later. Just click the link in your email and enter your survey PIN to pick up where you left off. Your PIN is included in the survey emails. If you can’t find it, call the Penn State team at 877.848.2474 or email wwp.src@psu.edu.

No individual names will be used in our results. Your answers will be combined with those of other warriors and reported only as a group.

Results from the 2023 survey and reports from previous years can be found at WarriorSurvey.com.

Once the survey results are published in early 2027, they will be emailed to all warriors and made available at WarriorSurvey.com.

Your name and contact information were provided to Penn State through your WWP registration.

We are asking for your year of birth at the beginning of the survey to increase the likelihood that we are surveying the right person. This helps us confirm your identity—especially if the survey was sent to a shared email or a household with more than one warrior. It’s an important step to keep the data accurate and reliable.

No, you’re not required to take the survey — but your voice matters in this important research. This is your chance to share your needs and experiences, and your input helps shape future support for warriors. If you’re able, we encourage you to take part.

If you wish to withdraw your answers once you begin the survey, please notify Penn State by sending an email to wwp.src@psu.edu. Please include your name and survey PIN in the email.

You can skip any question you don’t want to answer. However, the more responses you’re able to provide will allow WWP to better track and treat warriors’ most pressing needs.

Your individual survey responses are combined with those from other warriors. This means that neither you nor your individual survey responses will be identified in the reporting of the survey results.

Your responses are confidential. However, if you share something that suggests a risk to your safety or someone else’s, Penn State may securely share your responses with a WWP staff member who may reach out to check on your well-being.

As a thank-you for taking the survey, WWP will send you a WWP RFID wallet in the mail. We ask for your current address to make sure it gets to you — since your address may have changed since you registered or last updated it with WWP. Wallets will be sent out by November 2025 after the survey ends.

Complete the survey to receive your WWP RFID Wallet.
